Kevin Hart's history of homophobic remarks cost him his dream job of hosting the Oscars.
Some folks don't think he's learned his lesson.
Kevin Hart and Lil Nas X were both guests on the latest episode of Lebron James's HBO show The Shop. During the group chat, Hart and Nas X discuss X's coming out.
.@lilnasx speaks the truth about his choice to come out while at the top. More of The Shop on @HBO now! pic.twitter.com/wETNaPUU5t— UNINTERRUPTED (@uninterrupted) September 4, 2019
"He said he's gay. So what?" Hart says before X has a chance to speak.
"It's not that it's like being forced," Nas X says. "It's just like growing up. I'm growing up to hate this sh*t. I'm not supposed to..."
"Hate what? Hate what?" Hart interrupts.
"Homosexuality," Nas X explains. "Gay people. Come on now. If you're really from the hood you should know ... So it's like for me, the cool dude with the song on top of everything, to say this any other time, like I'm doing this for attention in my eyes. But if you're doing this while you at the top you know it's like for real and it shows that it doesn't really matter."
Hart was criticized on Twitter for "gaslighting" Nas X. "Gaslighting" is when you try to make someone question their own sanity when they have a valid point. In this case, Nas X's valid point would be that it's especially tough to be gay in the hood.
Kevin Hart’s blatant gaslighting When lil Nas X said he was scared to come out is beyond ignorant! Fam, didn’t kevin say that he would beat his child if they were to come out gay? and now he the audacity to question WHY lil Nas X would be apprehensive? #LilNasX #kevinhart pic.twitter.com/eDb0WaRV3Y— SLAYSARAH 💅🏿 (@SlaySlaysarah) September 4, 2019
The comedian, who once joked he would become violent with his own son should he find him playing with dolls, feigned ignorance as to why @LilNasX weighed coming out so seriously. https://t.co/GddNUt0PGC— Out Magazine (@outmagazine) September 4, 2019
lil nas x showed admirable resolve there — that he shouldn’t have had to, it should be said — but what i really liked was how he took the steam out of kevin hart with that “if you were really from the hood, you would know.”— Joel D. Anderson (@byjoelanderson) September 4, 2019
Kevin Hart acting like he doesn’t know why Lil Nas X would be scared to come out is like someone who stole the thing you lost helping you look for it. https://t.co/ZmfRNMktel— Phillip Henry (@MajorPhilebrity) September 4, 2019
Kevin Hart really thought he could rattle Lil Nas X, a veteran of Barb twitter— JuanPa (@jpbrammer) September 4, 2019
LMAOOOOOOOO at Kevin Hart acting confused and fixing his dumb ass mouth to ask Lil Nas X why he would have homophobic thoughts as a kid.— Amir Talai (@AmirTalai) September 4, 2019
Uhhhhh, I dont know, maybe cuz SOME people make jokes about beating up their gay children?? FOH#TheShopHBO
Kevin Hart: "I'd hit my son if he was gay haha"— Hayden (@ActuallynHayden) September 4, 2019
